2017 CAREGiver of the Year - Kim
Kim truly personifies what a Home Instead CAREGiver is all about. She has received praise and kudos from 20+ clients and their family members. One client said, "Kim is perfect". Another client said, "Kim just fits right in, she is a part of our family."
Kim's focus is always the client and preserving her client's independence and dignity. She is caring, compassionate, dependable and communicates well with not only her clients and their family members but also with the office.
Kim has a bachelor of science in Urban Studies from Morgan State. She is a retired Case Manager Supervisor with Department of Juvenile Services of Baltimore.
CAREGiving comes naturally to Kim who cared for her aging mother. Kim has been with Home Instead since March of 2015.
One of her most memorable clients was her 92-year-old Alzheimer client. She recalls a time he woke at 2:30 am telling her he wanted some cookies. She said, when I asked him if the cookies were in the kitchen (he usually had a pack by his recliner), he said no, that he wanted her to bake them. He went on to explain that he was expecting several people in a few hours and the cookies needed to be ready for their arrival. He specified that they be a certain size - very small, which he said would be tricky. She told him not to worry, that she knew exactly what he wanted and that he could go back to sleep while she baked the cookies. Kim got started on baking those cookies and the client went back to sleep.
It is clear Kim’s passion is being a CAREGiver. When asked why she enjoys it, Kim stated “Someone's got to be ready to bake cookies at 2:30 am!"
